Income Generation
Our primary program in Uganda is to create income opportunities for women who are living on a dollar a day. Our first project was to develop handmade beads made from recycled paper and to train women to make them. During the time the beaders are part of our program they learn about money and about how to start and run a business. Once they graduate from BeadforLife they are prepared to support themselves and their family.
Our second income generating program, launched in 2010, is to work with 760 women in Northern Uganda who gather and process shea nuts. BeadforLife has made two products, soap and lip balm which we sell. We also offer Pure Organic Shea Butter in bulk to individuals and companies wanting to use this premium product in cosmetics and soaps.
BeadforLife always pays its members above average Fair Trade prices. We encourage members to open savings accounts and to invest in opportunities which will help them leave poverty behind.
Community Programs
BeadforLife has a holistic approach to poverty eradication. In addition to our income generation programs of bead-making and gathering shea nuts, our Community Development programs include:
All of our net profits are reinvested in our Community Development projects.
BeadforLife has a Grants Program to assist other non-profit groups doing poverty eradication work. Through these collaborations we can expand our capacity to affect extreme poverty.
Make a donation. Donations to BeadforLife go directly towards eradicating poverty in Uganda. 93 cents of every dollar is invested in community development work fighting extreme poverty, including projects in health care, vocational training for out-of-school youth, affordable housing, and entrepreneurial skills development. BeadforLife is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization (tax ID: 20-1683139). Donations are tax deductible to the full extent of the law.
